Connection
Rupert and his lola (Bella Berdin) are two unlikely pair. Both child-like and immature, these two butted heads more often than I can count. It has always been my job to be a mediator: Rupert’s fiesty protector while at the same time his stern disciplinarian.
But today, those two shared the same giddy smile and kilig. Rupert, truly a Gen Z kid, is more at home with technology, teaching his lola. When it’s video call, it is always Rupert who takes control. To me, that’s a life skill.
The ECQ is teaching us to be innovative even in terms of parenting. Connection, although fragmented by slow internet, can still be nourished. There are limitations to this kind of parenting, but we make do with what’s available.
And like every conversation we’ve had, the boy asked again, “Kelan ka uuwi, Tita?”.
“May 15,” I answered, silently hoping that ECQ would hopefully be lifted by then.
“May 15,” repeated Rupert, mentally taking notes.
Naku, why did I promise? Now this boy would now count the days until May 15, asking his Lola endlessly, “May 15 na ba?”
Here’s to hoping ECQ would be lifted by May 15. But I know that if the risk is still high by then, I would in a nanosecond, agree to break my promise to this boy, promising to go home another time.
For now, we have fragmented technology and blurred photos to keep us together, and somehow that’s already a blessing.

It was such an overwhelming as well as emotional moment were we could see their ups and downs through the frame of our heart. Each of their names where engraved on it.their journey through our life / our journey through their life , it may be love, anger, disappointment, frustrations, expectations , hope ….everything gone reel by reel … as every teacher feels so proud that they brought some changes in their life that could possibly help them in many ways .
