Ambulance Siren
The siren of the ambulance blared, becoming louder and incessant as it nears the street outside our house. There were brgy. tanod ahead, riding their motorcycles, wearing masks.
Jumping, I looked out our screen door to the street, heart beating furiously. On my pambahay, my laptop momentarily abandoned, I looked out as the siren grew louder and the flashing reds brighter.
As the ambulance moved farther away, it was a phantom. I was left shaking, trembling uncontrollably.
It has never been this close, this real, until now.
