That Went By, So Can This

Your smile that captivates me,
of astounding speeches and virtuous wit
that kept us entranced, imprisoned
in such foolish idolatry.

Hear me then, as I sing
the praises that kept coming out of thy foolish heart.
Only you and me.

By will and power, you imposed unto me
an image of yourself, unencumbered, free
and spirited.

You like your share of admirers,
to love, to idolize such looks
that you ensued, and you groomed
them. Yes, you do.
With every vain stroke of well-made hair
And of such shirt that revealed
the well-spruced muscles.

And yes, they kept looking at you,
as I do also.

Your gazes that linger on me,
as I constructed meanings out of it,
of purely fictional imaginings,
of moon-lit evenings,
of you and me enclosed
in a firm embrace, an impassioned kiss.
As our body moved to dance in the rhythm of
the music that was
nothing.

As pens dance in recognition of nothing
to create something
blood-stained in a piece of paper.
As we moved closer together in imitation
of rituals of
love,
of dancing and moving
into the nothingness. Only you
and me.

Þæs ofereode, þisses swa mæg
That went by, so can this.

A resounding crash, a crack of dusk
and I saw you with her.
Arms intertwined, body’s close, and kissing
To her given what was rightfully mine.

And, oh yes, she had me in her
singing, dancing, moving.
Lo and behold, I see her smiling
Looking up at you
as the stars twinkles overhead
and the full moon smiled.
And I smiled too.

Laughed at the onset of derision,
Cheered at the realization of betrayal,
and smile, yes I smiled.
A covenant
betrayed.

Þæs ofereode, þisses swa mæg
That went by, so can this.
